Following the postponement of the 1st XV fixture at Weybridge Vandals due to the cold weather, attention turned to the 2nd XV’s home fixture against KCS Old Boys taking place on the AGP.
A fast start by KCS saw the first half end with Cobham 0-14 down at the break. However, a turn round in a pulsating second half saw Cobham run in four tries. The statistics do not do themselves justice to the turnaround that the spectators, including the First XV and coaching team, enjoyed.
On his debut Josh Millerd scored back-to-back tries and this was followed up by a stunning score from Tomsk Sherrington. Captain Alex Blackwood, coming off the bench and fresh from the snow slopes, blasted through the defence to touch down under the posts. Michael Osner converted three of the four tries.
Having allowed KCS to claw their way back into the match, in the final minutes Jade Dernbach just failed to slot over a long-range penalty. The match finished 26-all to add the previous match score of 24-all.
A great game of running rugby with 17 of the Cobham 23 players, having previously played mini and youth rugby at the club. Additionally, Cobham gave debuts to six players, four of them former Mini and Youth players, plus one current Cobham Colt Tom Incledon.
