Cobham kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 43-14 victory over Cranbrook at Fairmile Lane on Saturday (10 August).
The premier pitch was in excellent condition, thanks to the hard work of the ground staff during the close season. Cobham gave a number of players senior debuts, while fly half Tom Farrelly captained the team. The visitors coaching team included former 1st XV captain James Green.
Henry Mason, Frazer Atkins and Matt Adams all started for the first time, with Andy Cobb, Luke Dones, Joe Balkwill and Charlie James making their debuts from the bench.
The home side finally had the opportunity to put their last few weeks of training into practice, which resulted in five first half tries being scored. With an enlarged squad selected, the coaching staff made a number of changes to give everyone game time and with it further tries followed in the second forty minutes.
To their credit, Cranbrook battled to the final whistle and were rewarded with two fine consolation tries.
After the match, the players socialised together with Cranbrook presenting Cobham with a club tie and shield. In return, James Green was presented with a club shirt to take back to Cranbrook.
