Gordon Levati Volunteer of the Year Award

The annual volunteer of the year awards, sponsored by the Braemar Allstars former players and supporters group, were presented on Friday 6th September at the Volunteer Recognition Evening. Volunteers are the heart of our club and everything that happens at Cobham RFC is made possible because of them.

Drawn from and representing every section – from Minis to Vets – there were 9 nominations for the 2023/24 season; all of whom have made significant contributions to our club:

  • Ollie Fielding

  • Ian Snead

  • Tom Cowan

  • Miles Hill

  • Derek O’Donnel

  • Richard Neish

  • Bob Newman

  • Emily Chhabra

  • Kieran Chhabra

Congratulations to all of them! Each nominee received a bottle of champagne with our thanks and gratitude.

Selecting an overall winner was a real challenge but, after much deliberation, the Gordon Levati Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Miles Hill. In addition to his champagne Miles received a gift pack from the Silent Pool distillery in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the club.

Miles’ nomination:

Since taking on the role of Vets Manager, Miles Hill has embodied the club's spirit, inspiring those around him to create an atmosphere of fun and inclusivity. The Wednesday night touch sessions have become a weekly highlight for many, bringing together men and women of all ages and abilities for an hour of enjoyable rugby. Miles has been instrumental in recruiting and encouraging players to participate regularly.

Beyond these sessions, Miles has spearheaded several initiatives to enhance the club's social atmosphere. He introduced a coffee and ice cream van for Saturday morning family touch events, and organized curry and fish 'n' chip nights during the summer when the club kitchen is closed. These efforts have helped maintain a sense of community even during the off-season.

Looking ahead, Miles has put together an exciting Allstars schedule for the year. It features key fixtures and social events, including a highly anticipated "fun bus" trip to Farnham, which will be followed by live music and a visit to Julian Clarke's pub. Through these varied activities Miles continues to strengthen the club's social bonds and ensure an engaging experience for all members.

Finally, I would also like to thank Stuart Davies, my predecessor as Chairman of the Braemar Allstars who attended the event, for personally sponsoring the Silent Pool Gift Set.
